At a ceremony which was attended by SoS for local government the solicitor general and other dignitaries, equipment software and hard ware handed over to the six partners to the tune of US$ 101094.39 This equipment included desktop, laptops, printers digital cameras, digital recorders, carbi photocopies, air conditioners, filling cabinets, UPs office tables and chairs and other computer software.
This development came from a funding from the UNDP Capacity Building Project for Media houses and Civil Society Organisations, which in the Gambia is implemented by Action Aid international-the Gambia and the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies.
The ultimate aim of the project is to improve public participation in economic and political governance at decentralised level by strengthening the ability of civil society institutions and the media. This in turn ensures that economic and political systems are transparent, accountable and participatory, and that decision making processes is inclusive at both the national and decentralised levels.
