Meschede Health Foundation, a charitable organisation based in Germany, on Wednesday donated medical equipment and drugs to the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital in Banjul.
The foundation has for the past seven years been giving to the RVTH annually. The donated items which were received by the RVTH development officer, Huja Jah, included colostomy bags, glucose machines, surgical materials, dialysis fistula needles, ECG machines, anti-hypertensives, anti-cholosterals, lenses, and antiseptic creams.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, Birgit Lempa said for the past seven years, her organisation has been supporting RVTH and they “hope to continue supporting not only RVTH but other health facilities”. Foday Darboe, Birgit’s Gambian counterpart, who is also the nurse in charge at the Tanjie Community health centre, said the donors are good friends of The Gambia.
Elke Wittrich, another member of the foundation who also attended the handing over ceremony assured the gathering that her organisation will continue to offer help to Gambians. “I hope that the items will be put to good use,” she concluded.
