Wednesday, February 25, 2009

The Managing Director of School Fund, Mr Sheriff Tambedou, recently testified before Magistrate Pa Harry Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

In his testimony before the court, the witness stated that the school fund was to help the poor children around the Brikama area. He said Mr. Christopher John Allowright is sponsoring 250 students and two of these were in the U.K. for studies.

According to him he also knew the relationship between the Managing Director of Atlantic Construction Yasalma and Christopher John Allowright.  He added that the transaction between the plaintiff Christopher John Allowright and first defendant Yasalma was that the said fund wanted to build a supermarket at Brikama. He said he met with a Dutch national who was interested in the Skills Centre, and the Dutch national gave him the sum of D75000 so that he would let the premises for 5 years. He revealed that the defendant told them that he received the sum of one hundred and two thousand Dalasis from the Dutch national for the charity. He said the first defendant told them that the fund also gave him three hundred and eighty thousand Dalasis for him to start the building of the premises. He adduced that when the money was given to the first defendant Yasalma, he was issued with a receipt, adding that after the defendant received the money he did not do the work.

The case was adjourned to 24th March for judgement.
