Let’s Celebrate Harmony and Tolerance

We wish the Christian community in The Gambia the very best today as they engage in the holy time of Lent. It is a time of prayer and reflection in the run up to the sacred celebration of Easter.

The Gambia can be proud that here we have the joyous situation of peaceful coexistence between all faiths. In too many places all over the world faith can lead people to do terrible things in the name of God, even things that he has expressly forbidden.

Lent will last for 40 days and 40 nights and we pray that God will hear all the prayers and receive all the sacrifices offered by our Christian brothers and sisters during that time.

On Easter Sunday the Christian community here in The Gambia will celebrate the resurrection but until that time they must share in the sacrifice of God for his people.

Once again we give praise that we in The Gambia can live in such harmony and be a shining beacon of tolerance to all the peoples of the world.

May God shower his blessings on all of us.
