Monday, January 12, 2009

The ruling APRC party has retained the Foday Kunda Ward seat in last Thursday hotly contested bye-election.

Malamin Darboe, the APRC candidate from Burifu village polled 1230 votes while his opponent, Alhagie Conteh of the opposition NADD party, got 915 votes.

The Foday Kunda Ward seat became vacant following the demise of the former councillor for the ward, Yaya Kanteh sometime last year. The bye-election was hailed as free, fair and transparent.

Shortly after the results were announced, Momodou S. Kah, Deputy Governor of Upper River Region (URR) called on the people of the ward to work with their newly elected councillor irrespective of their political affiliation, for their own development.
