Officials of the Action-Aid International The Gambia, the main funding partners of the Association for Youths Coalition Against Hunger (AYCAH) last Friday, held a one-day evaluation meeting, with the executives of the AYCAH at a ceremony held at the Christian Council along the MDI road.
Established by Youth Network of Coalition, AYCAH was founded in the Gambia in April 2005.It has other partners operating in over 14 African countries. Since its existence, the Association Gambia chapter, works with partners both national and international to campaign for a Hunger Free World which also engaged governments, to deliver on their commitments to halve hunger in the world by 2015 as enshrine in the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s).
Meanwhile, the association’s main campaign also demand action for intergovernmental organisations and cooperations to end hunger related problems, by providing appropriate and sustainable access to food as well as the global trade rules between African countries ad the developed world.
Speaking at the ceremony, Alagie Kebbeh, chairman of NAYAFS, said this evaluation process is an annual event conducted by Action-Aid for its partners. He noted that this will enable Action-Aid to know what achievements, partners have registered in the past year.
Aram Sarr, president of AYCAH said such organisation operates in other African countries. According to her, the association has embarked on meaningful developments over the past years. Sanna Bah, coordinator of the association expressed similar sentiments. He confirmed that over the years, they have build co-volunteer chapters in different schools across the country as well as held training programmes for some co-volunteer members in the past.
He further highlighted that AYCAH’s budget is mainly on monitoring aspects but quick to revealed that financial constrains hampered some of their targeted programmes. “Last year we had planned to embarked on programmes like support for school farms and gardening projects, monitoring of school chapter, but was not possible” he said The ceremony was attended by AYCAH co-volunteer members, among others.
