Red Scorpions club was formed 15 years ago and has since taken the leading role in the promotion of female football in the country.
This club is among the oldest teams in The Gambia. They were two time runners up, in 1993 and 1994, and FA cup title holders in 1994-1995. This team was crowned the league champions in 1996 and were potential winners of the 1997 league. In 2005, Red Scorpions beat City Girls in the finals of the Fatoumata Jahumpa Ceesay’s (FJC) sponsored trophy. The club has eight of its players in first ever female selection for the national team and a coach player as well.
They were voted best female local club 2007 by football enthusiasts at the National Sports Journalist Awards held in December last year.
