A head of the upcoming January 24th local government elections, Yankuba Colley, the APRC mayoral hopeful for the Kanifing Municipal Council, has said that the workload at the council is too heavy for an Old Pa to shoulder thus making him the right choice to manage the affairs of the municipality as he is a youth .
He added that the experience he gained from municipal work has proven to him that only a competent youthful candidate is fit for the council’s mayoral seat.
The aspirant mayor made these remakes on Tuesday, January 15th, while addressing APRC supporters and sympathisers at a political rally at Bakau Newtown.
According to him, KMC is not a council were an elected mayor is expected to sit and relax, but one where the person is expected to deliver his fullest as the electorate have bestowed trust and confidence on him. So on choosing a candidate for such task, one has to be very sensitive as to who can better manage their affairs, he said, adding that his opponent better - known as Master Danso - is therefore not fit to head the municipality .
‘“We all know that he has worked and retired due to his age, and now he wants to take up higher responsibilities that might finish him. In fact, he is not a genuine candidate because his age alone disqualifies him”, said Colley, adding that Master Danso should have give chance to a youth in his party to challenge him [Colley].
He therefore called on Master Danso to withdraw from the race to avoid embarrassment and disgrace .
He told the gathering that if elected, waste collection and management will top his priorities.
“Already, 25 brand new tractors are currently stationed at the council yard, ready to start operations. Those tractors were secured during my stint as mayor. Many more developments are in the pipeline,” he declared.
He then urged the electorates to vote massively for him, and desist from politics of hatred and violence as the APRC always yearns for tranquility.
