Bafrow sensitises local authorities

The Foundation for Research on Women’s Health Productivity and the Environment (Bafrow), on Wednesday organised a one-day open field trip to its model centre at Mandinaba Village in Kombo East District for governors, district chiefs, and community heads.

The purpose of the visits was to acquaint the local authorities with the Foundation’s interventions and projects currently being undertaken.
Established 17 years ago, Bafrow is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) that caters for the welfare and development of Gambians, especially women and children.
Speaking at the ceremony, on behalf of the SoS for Local Government and Lands, Abdou FM Badjie, Governor of Western Region, applauded the foundation for what he described as a good initiative undertaken at the site.

According to him, the event was an important milestone in the history of the foundation. He said many people in the area benefited from this project, adding that the foundation has been involved in income generating ventures for its members and the community,” he said.

For his part, Hon Lamin M Bojang, National Assembly Member for Kombo East District, applauded the foundation for its hard work, noting that through such intervention poverty and hunger can be eradicated in society.
He added that President Jammeh attaches a great importance to quality health care delivery for Gambians. “Bafrow has been actively involved in that area as it operates its own centre here,” he said.
Yassin Sompo Ceesay, Bafrow’s Projects Manager, said the foundation has been working to extend its operation to the whole country. According to her, one of their key ambitions is to eradicate poverty and hunger as enshrined in Millennium Development Goals by 2015 and the Vision 2020. “We had series of consultation with community elders and currently operates in KMC, Kombo East, Maccarthy, Foni Bondali and Foni Brefet respectively,” she added.

Ms Sompo Ceesay revealed that the foundation provided mobile accessories, TVs and radios to its staff to facilitate communication.
Other speakers at the ceremony included, Arabitou   Gibba, Bafrow Women Representative, Fatou Mbin Badjie and Yafatou Kujabi, both are nurse attendants. Lamin Dibba, representative from the NGO Affairs Agency, chaired the ceremony.
The ceremony was characterised by drama and poetry performance by Bafrow members, while Jaliba Kuyateh and the Kumareh Band entertained the crowd.
