ECONMANSA gets new executive

The Economic and Management Students Association (ECOMANSA) of the university of The Gambia, has a fresh batch to spearhead its activities in the coming year.

The new executive consists of Ousman Bojang, president, Fatoumatta Jarjusey, vice president, Modou Alieu Cham, secretary general , Awa Sillah, auditor, Bintou Sonko, PRO and Modou Fatty, Finance Director.

In attendance at the ceremony was the acting vice chancellor Dr Ousman Nyang and senior administrative staff. The new executive last Saturday, 20th December 2008, took oath of office and officially assumed the mantle of leadership at a handing over ceremony held at the Girls Guide Complex in Kanifing.

Delivering his farewell speech, the outgoing President of the association, Mss Fanta Jammeh said, since the day they assumed office, they knew it was challenging but with hardwork and dedication, they where able to survive. She said all the challenges disappeared and they were able to rebuild ECOMANSA on and make it gain its position within the university.  

Mss Jammeh noted that after one year of struggle, they were able to extend the working hours of the library, conduct public lecture series, orientation programmes for new economic and management students, conduct survey and also series of sporting events.  She called on their successors, to continue from where they stop and ensure that the association’s flag fly higher.

For his part, Ousman Bojang, the incoming president, acknowledge the fact that their predecessors has achieved a lot for the association. He assured that they will do all they can to continue the good work. According to him, his executive is thinking big and is wishing to achieve big things for the association.  He noted that they need an ECOMANSA complex, library, cafeteria and even an ECOMANSA hostel.

He called on the students to be prepared to work for success and with collective efforts, they will achieve their ambition. The ceremony was punctuated by a presentation by the head of the Economics and Management Department Dr Buhari Sillah on the state of the world economy.
