2 drug peddlers convicted

Senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda-Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates court yesterday convicted Dam Sarr and Ensa Badjie and sentenced them to a fine of D500 each in default to serve a three-month imprisonment term. They were also given a one-year suspended sentence.

The duo pleaded guilty to charges of selling medicine without proper authorisation or license contrary to Section 16 (1) of the Medicine Act
According to the particulars of the offense, Dam Sarr was found selling various kinds of drugs including Paracetamol in Serrekunda.

Ensa Badjie and a third accused person, Alex Gassama, were also found on the same day and place selling various kinds of medicine without the proper authorisation. Alex Gassama, unlike his co-accused, pleaded not guilty.

He was granted bail in the sum of D10,000 with one Gambian surety. The case was adjourned to December 23.
