Bahai holds graduation ceremony

In yet another development ,the Bahai National Centre recently held it’s 20th graduation ceremony at the head quarters in Kanifing.Sixty students  granduated.

In a marathon speech, the Guest speaker of the occasion, Mr. Lamin Gibba of the Nova Scotia-Gambia Association said, "Investment in Education, is Investment in Human Capital, which is believed to be imperative for developing countries". Mr Gibba added, that there cannot be any meaningful and sustainable socio-economic development in modern times, if the citizenry do not have the required educational support.

"If we really want to develop as a nation, policy markers must focus their attention on investment in human capital ,through Education and Professional training" says Gibba.

Education should not only be considered as an essential part of poverty reduction strategy, but should also be used as a vital national developmental strategy.

He therefore stressed on the need to develop a sound Educational system ,which is  crucial to economic growth and contributes to the workers’ productivity, improved natural resource management and promote better adaptation to innovations and newer technologies.

The trend to more competitive , knowledge-led and technology-intensive global environment makes the imperative for training and skills development even greater. With the new technological advancements, which include ICT, Mr Gibba added ,are clearly of little value to countries that have very little skilled workers who use them. He further went on to say that, in The Gambia, there is a dynamic Government with the political will, that does not only formulate but implement policies related to Education and Poverty reduction. "This is evident in the creation of many secondary and primary schools, the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), the University of The Gambia and the establishment of a whole Department of State for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology".

Mr Gibba urged graduants to persevere and commit their efforts in pursuance of higher education so as to obtain enormous achievements by extension, towards greatness.

"Always endeavor to be a winner, because winners don’t quit, so don’t be quitters because quitters don’t often win" Gibba concluded.

In delivering her vote of thanks, Inna Buya Puye expressed appreciation on behalf of her colleagues to the staff and management of the Baha’i centre, with special reference to Mr. Bakary Bojang, for the invaluable computer training given to them at no cost. She then, asserted that they will utilized the knowledge gained. The ceremony  punctuated with certification of graduants, was well attended by parents and well wishers a like.
