Police officer testifies in robbery trial

Sergeant 806 Ebrima Manneh of the Gambia Police Force on Wednesday appeared before Senior Magistrate Abdoulie Mbake of the Kanifing Magistrates Court to testify in a robbery trial involving Seedy Jallow and Buba Secka.

In his testimony, Sgt Manneh told the court that on the 18th of July 2008, when he was on duty at Kanifing Estate Estate Police Station, that he received a complaint from one Basaikou Suwaray of Bakau. The complainant, according to him, stated that his mobile phone had been forcefully taken from him at Kanifing Layout. 

According to Sgt Manneh, the complainant’s statement was written, and then a certain Sgt Danso was informed about it.  He further told the court that Sgt Danso at that juncture ordered some officers to investigate the matter.

During the course of the investigation, he went on the suspects were arrested and detained.  He added that the mobile phone was found on one of the suspects.

At that juncture, the police prosecutor, Sub-Inspector Fadera, made an application to close his case.

The case was adjourned to 12th November 2008 for the accused persons to open their defense.
