Preparations are in high gear for the successful organisation of the 13th edition of the annual Brufut Marathon Race.
This year’s race is schedule for Saturday, December 8, and thetheme is “Run against illegal Migration”-a scenario that continues to be a concern to all.
According to Momodu Max Jallow, a member of the Brufut Marathon Run Association, this year’s race is meant to sensitise the general public, more especially the youths on the dangers of illegal migration.

He said the December race will feature various events including the 10km race for men and women, bicycle race among others.
“Owing to the popularity and an increase in participation of athletes in the traditional annual event, the usual 10km male event would start at the Traffic Lights in Kairaba Avenue to Brufut. The female race will start at the Brusubi Turn-Table to Brufut. The Bicycle Race will start at the July 22 Square in Banjul to Brufut via Bakau Cape Point, Traffic Lights and Ghana Town.”

“Interestingly for the first time, there will be a wheel chair race for the disabled people, and the usual 1.5 km for the nursery school pupils and their teachers.”

Jallow said the registration for this year’s race has started, noting that except for the disabled people and nursery school pupils, one needs to pay only D30.00 (thirty dalasis) to take part in the events that will see all the participants decorated with certificates in addition to winners prizes that will include cash, trophies, gold medals, bags of rice, just to name but a few.
