Dimbaya murder case goes to court

The 7th October 2007 Dimbaya village murder case, involving two namesakes, Jawo Jallow (Senior) and Jawo Jallow (Junior), which led to the death of Jawo Jallow Senior, has recently been brought before Senior Magistrate EF M’Bai of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court.

Jawo junior stands accused for manslaughter contrary to section 182 of the criminal code. The accused however told the court that he had no defence counsel and no witness in the case when the charge sheet was read to him.

At that juncture, Magistrate M’Bai adjourned the case to 11 March this year for the accused to take his plea of guilt or no guilt.

Menawhile, Magistrate M’Bai has granted him bail in the sum D50,000 with a Gambian as surety who is holding a valid identity card.

Magistrate M’Bai also ordered Jawo to hire a lawyer since his case involves the death of somebody.

The magistrate further noted that in the interest of justice, state counsel should prosecute such cases.
