Mr. Sereign Modou Joof, the public relations officer of Brikama Area Council, has revealed that BAC has recently invested over D200,000 in the re-construction of some of the secondary roads within Kombo Central, Kombo South and Kombo North.
According to Mr. Joof this is in a bit to make sure that villages and wards have access to go about their business during the rainy season. Mr. Joof said: “It has come to the council’s notice that the roads are hardly habitable in these areas during the course of the rainy season which leads to the damage of properties and vehicles plying those roads”. He mentioned that it is also the council’s interest that the revenues collected from the tax payers are ploughed back to them in the way of trying to re-construct some of the roads for easy movement of people and products to the market.
According to him, this is done by the council in collaboration with truck owners, CSE and the Geology Unit who are very keen in working together with the council to access the gravel that has been transported from mining spots to those destinations.
Unfortunately, he said, the council as an institution does not have adequate vehicles to take care of the entire area leading to the hiring of trucks from their owners who are currently doing the work.
Mr. Joof finally called on the beneficiaries to be steadfast in their hard work as the concern of the general public and the tax payers continues to be the priority of the council.
