Banjul pre-season reaches climax

Tuesday, January 29, 2008
The on-going Banjul pre-season tournament, dubbed Edar Carr Pre-season Memorial Tournament, has reached a climax with Armed Forces and Real de Banjul berthing a spot in the final, after heated semi-final crackers over the weekend.

The First Division league champions, Real de Banjul, reached the final at the expense of the dethroned champions, Ports Authority, after a 4-3 win in a post-match spot kick, whilst the Soldiers cruised past Wallidan with a 1-0 win to join the fray.

The two sides will now square-up against each other in the mouth-watering final scheduled for Saturday, February 2, at the Banjul Mini-stadium.

Commenting on the tournament, Ebou Faye, a member of the Banjul Sports Committee said, “The competition has been going on fine. If not for the Africa Nations Cup tournament, the turn-out would have been impressive. Next Saturday is a rest day in the Nations Cup and we hope to have a large turn-out for the final.”

The participating clubs are using the tournament as a build up to the 2008 league season that is due to commence in February.
