Gambian international Edrissa Sonko played a full-time match before his Walsall side subdued to South end 2-0 in their weekend encounter. The defeat saw Walsall slightly slipped to 14th position on the 24-team Coca Cola League One table.

The pacy winger had earlier spoke of his African Cup of Nations heartbreak, and revealed how he plans to heal it, by helping Walsall climb up League One table.

Sonko will be available for his club for the rest of the season, after Scorpions failed to make the Nations Cup finals in Ghana .

Despite missing out on his dream of playing in January’s finals, Sonko is determined to turn his international gloom into a plus for the English League One giants.

"It is going to happen in January and it would have been great for me to be there," said Sonko.

"But hopefully it will be good for Walsall , because if we had got through I would have been away for about four weeks, which is no good for my club.

"I hope it’s good news for Walsall and I am delighted about that, but the fact that we cannot go to the African Cup is a real pity.

"I can concentrate on doing well for Walsall and hopefully help them to have a good season," said the former Real de Banjul Roda JC striker.

Walsall’s next fixture will see them travel to the relegation-threatened side Bournemouth on Sunday, October 28.
