Major boost for NYSS

The National youth Service Scheme (NYSS), yesterday, received an ultra-modern welding equipment from the Diappoleen Foundation, a charitable organization based in Holland.

The materials, worth half a million dalasis, were handed over to the NYSS, at a ceremony held at its Orientation and Training Camp, in Bakau.

Handing over the materials, Frans Nagel, president of Diappoleen Foundation, said the donation was part of a series of donations they had been rendering to The Gambian community. He highlighted the foundation’s commitment to contributing immensely in improving the standards of Gambian youths.

Mr Nagel used the opportunity to advise Gambian youths to take up education and self developments ventures seriously.

Receiving the materials on behalf of NYSS, Mr Musa Mbye, the scheme’s executive director, thanked the foundation for their support to the Gambian youths through his institution. He then reiterated the importance of youths in society, noting that they were the cream of every society. “Anyone who supports them is contributing towards national development,” he said.

The NYSS boss then highlighted the several engagements and activities of the scheme, adding that NYSS had been created for the young people to be trained specifically on skills, and to instill in them attitude of self-reliance, as well as to encourage them to take up skill development ventures. He then assured the donors that the materials would be put into good use, to the benefit of the target people, who are the vulnerable in the society, nationwide, observing that the institution is a combination of people from different parts of the country.

The ceremony was attended by Marcel Mendy, public relation officer of NYSS and other staff and corps members.
