Gambia Senior Secondary School, formerly Gambia High, over the weekend, beat thirty-three other senior schools to land the 2008 inter-schools athletics championship title at a thrilling sports carnival held at the Independence Stadium, Bakau.
The official results released by the organisers - The Gambia Senior Secondary School Sports Association, saw Gambia Senior Secondary finished on top with 416 points - 91 points ahead of the second-best and last year’s champions, Bottrop Senior Secondly School.
The Western Region school which finished second on 325 points, was denied its third consecutive title after a back-to-back title last year.
Saints Augustine, who made a swift return after a two-year suspension, finish at third spot with 195 points, while S.O.S Senior finished fourth on 181 points. The highly-hyped side, Muslim Senior, solaced themselves with fifth position on 154.
Kuntair and Tujereng finished at the bottom after both sides fail to grasp a point in all the events.
