Bakau Newtown Mosque inaugurated

The new multi-million Bakau Newtown Central Mosque, situated at the entrance of Bakau town, was on Friday, June 8, 2007, officially inaugurated during the Friday prayers at 2pm.
The premises of the mosque were donated to the people of Bakau by Alhagie Basiru Jawara, a Gambian business tycoon and wife. Mr. Jawara also financed the entire construction of the mosque for the Muslims.

During the inauguration ceremony which coincided with the Friday prayer, thousands of Muslims including the ex-president of the Republic, Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara, gathered at the grounds to perform their religious obligation and witness the official opening.
Alhagie Jerreh Jammeh is the Imam of the mosque and other committee members include Alhagie Mousa Faye, President, Alhagie Lalo Jammeh, Vice President and Alhagie Baboucarr Ngum, Secretary.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Alhagie Kabba Jallow, who spoke on behalf of the committee, thanked Alhagie Basiru Jawara, the sponsor and the wife for their laudable gesture. He said that it is good for other Gambians who can afford it, to emulate Mr. Jawara in the very positive in the same way.

“Alhagie Basiru Jawara has set a record in promoting Islam in this country. A mosque is a place where people worship Allah. So anyone who contributes to the worshiping of Allah, especially building mosque, will surely be rewarded by Allah,” he said.
Alhagie Mousa Faye, President of the committee also thanked Mr. Jawara and prayed for continues peace and stability in the country.
