The Association of Youths Against Malaria (TAYAM), on Tuesday, conducted a training on prevention against malaria, at the Home Economics School in Jeshwang.

The training brought together youths from different associations, including Tayam’s link members.

Speaking at the training, Omar Ceesay, a board member of Tayam and a trainer, said malaria is a killer disease, caused by parasites which could be transmitted from one person to another, through the bite of a mosquito.

Mr Ceesay said young children and pregnant women are most vulnerable to malaria. He told the participants that the disease can be prevented through the consistent use of mosquito nets and regular use of mosquito coils.

Lisa Ceesay, Public Health Officer in Bakau, urged the participants to share knowledge gained from the training with others members of society.

At the training, Ms Ceesay demonstrated the correct and safety uses of dipping and treating a net.

Pa Alfusainey Fofana, a Field Officer of Tayam, thanked the participants for their participation.
