Young Observer: Did God give us life to enjoy every thing?

Monday, March 16, 2009
There lived a man called Richard who had a big farm not far from his village. Richard was a hardworking man who works hard to feed his family.

He had a friend called Johny boy who was very lazy. He spent most of his time singing songs of praises to God, hoping that God will farm for him and do other domestic works for him. One day Richard visited him and found him sleeping. "Boy the sun has rised and you should be working by now instead of sleeping," Richard told him. "Ah! Don’t worry, God will provide food for me", he replied.

"Do you think by sleeping here God will provide your needs for you? Oh no, God help those who help themselves," Richard told him. He left the room so angry and disappointed with his friend. When it was time for harvesting, God really blessed Richard and he had a bumper harvest and was very grateful to God. Johny boy went to the farm and met his friends singing and dancing while harvesting their crops.

He went back to his home and wept bitterly saying in a loud voice: "Oh God why do this to me after all the time I spent singing for you, you did not farm for me, Oh what a shame," what am I going to eat this year? His friend Richard met him there and said to him; "My friend God did not give us every thing to enjoy life. He gave us life to enjoy every thing".
