Thursday, February 12, 2009
The embassy of the Republic of China on Taiwan in Banjul is once more inviting Gambian children between the ages of 6-15 years to participate in the 40th World Schoolchildren’s Art Exhibition to be held in Taiwan later this year.

The World Schoolchildren’s Art Exhibition aims to promote cross-cultural understanding among the younger generation. The annual event is organized by the Association for Education through Art, Republic of China and the Association of Formative Art Education for the Republic of China.

Children from all over the world participate in the exhibition.
The art works included oil paintings, water colours, woodcut prints, pencil sketches, crayon drawings, pastels, collages, etching and graphic designs within the dimensions of 55cm X 40 cm. Only one piece will be allowed per person.

It will be recalled that in 2007, two Gambian children, Omar Sanyang and Alex Gomez of OldJeshwangLowerBasicSchool, received awards for their participation in World Schoolchildren’s Art Exhibition. Omar Sanyang received the Bronze certificate award while his schoolmate Alex received the selected certificate award.

Unfortunately last year the Gambian participants could not secure any prize.

According to the Taiwanese embassy dispatch, the winners will also be awarded certificates and prizes just like the previous years.

Children interested in knowing more about the exhibition can visit the Taiwanese embassy located at Kanifing South.
