Aji Fatou Mboge, a resident of Banjul, is in need of support, to enable her to get shelter for her family after being evicted from her home in Bundung.
Mboge who walked into Daily Observer offices a couple of days ago, told this reporter that she was forced to move out from the compound in Bundung, where she had been a tenant for almost 10 years. She said that she is currently living in a small makeshift apartment in Banjul with her family, describing it as “hell”.
She narrated how the authorities at the KMC had sent their municipal police officers on December 11, 2008, forcibly moving her out of the compound she was renting. According to her, in 2007, two of her children were wounded by some metal bars packed in front of her apartment. “This accident has completely damaged my child’s brain and the other boy continues to bleed up to now. They are all not going to school due to this unfortunate situation and the case is now set to be in court,” she revealed.
Mboge also added that during this period, she could not settle her rent because she was busy working out payments for the medical bills of her children. This, she said, was what was responsible for her eventual eviction, after her landlord had taken her to KMC tribunal court. According to her, she had managed to settle her bills. When the Daily Observer contacted the KMC rent officials, Omar Sey, a staff at the council, confirmed to this paper that Aji Fatou Mboge was given a court order to settle her rent bills within three (3) months and to vacate the compound.
Ebrima Barrow, Aji Fatou Mboge’s landlord, said he has been given the mandate to take care of the compound since 2008. He said that he was not aware of Aji Fatou Mboge’s children involvement in any accident. Barrow also confirmed to the Daily Observer that Aji Fatou Mboge was given a court order to vacate the compound.
