A delegation made of the the World Bank task team - headed by Manuel Jegan Sain; the permanent secretary for Local Government and Lands, Abdoulie Manneh; personnel of the CDDP; and the governor of CRR, Alhagie Ganyie Touray; recently visited some project sites in the Central River Region (CRR) North.
The purpose of their tour was meant to obtain first hand information on the various projects funded by the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP). The group visited the Sheep Fattening Centre at Kerr Samboye, Konteh Seed and Cereal Banking and the Touba Kuta rice milling machine.
Addressing the beneficiaries, the World Bank team leader, Manuel Jegan Sain, expressed delight and appreciation with the projects implemented in the region. He revealed that the government of The Gambia, in partnership with the World Bank, designed and eventually implemented a new idea in national development known as the CDDP. He said the project is meant for the communities to initiate their own projects based on development priorities that they believe will ease the hardship encountered at the grassroot level.
He called on the beneficiaries to make the best use of the projects as well as sustain them. The permanent secretary at the Department of State for Local Government and Lands, Abdoulie Manneh, said the CDDP is aimed at empowering the communities to express their demands as well as assume responsibility for their implementation and sustainability.
PS Manneh thanked the donors for their humanitarian gesture and urged the communities to make best use of the projects. The regional governor, Alhagie Ganyie Touray, commended the World Bank and their partners for their efforts to reduce poverty in the region.
