Unity is indeed the only way through which we, as a nation, can attain our desired development objective. The words of Honourable Seedy Njie, nominated member at the National Assembly, regarding this subject of immense pertinence, (Daily Observer Tuesday 14 2009 edition) deserve some kind of amplification as the prevailing situation of our generation is such that we are tied to love for individual interest rather than collective interest.
As a National Assembly member, and for some of his age occupying such a position, the honourable member is a role model to the over 40% youth population of this country who owe a great responsibility to the nation in terms of their much needed contribution. The advantage that comes along with youthfulness makes the youth of this country an indispensable treasure of some sort. No doubt the government of the day, under the leadership and with the full support of President Yahya Jammeh, gives keen attention to the development of the youth.
Of course, Honourable Njie’s work for the APRC is ubiquitous – we all saw the result of steadfastness during the recently concluded Nianija by-election. What we want to elaborate on, however, is his call for unity as a pre-requisite for development. You can not think of any developed nation anywhere on this planet where development was achieved amid disunity among its people.
