At least, three suspects, namely; Mamadi Badjie, Assan Badjie and Momodou Sanyang, were arrested and detained two weeks ago by the police at Kairaba Police Station, following the discovery of some stolen items (fishing nets and other items), from the CCT-Gambia Enterprise (located opposite St.Thereses School), Daily Observer can reveal.
Reliable sources informed this paper that the CCT-Gambia Company’s security man, in the person of Mr Mamadi Badjie, was spotted around the beach side in Kartong and Tanji, selling fishing nets. This tip-off prompted one Emmanuel Acheampong and Mr James Adomako, assistant manager of CCT-Gambia Enterprise to conduct a preliminary investigation into the issue.
Sources further hinted that when Mamadi Badjie, the security man at the CCT-Gambia Enterprise was confronted, he could not deny the allegations that he stole fishing nets from the warehouse where he was supposed to be on guard post. ‘Asked whether he posess the keys to the warehouse he replied in the negative and revealed that he passed through the roof,’ sources said.
Further investigations revealed that Mamadi Badjie has been conniving with one of his brother Assan Manneh, to break into the warehouse and steal the fishing nets. The total amount of goods stolen is estimated at a cost of D752,050.4. When contacted, Assan Manneh, the second accused, also pleaded guilty and confirmed that he connived with his elder brother Mamadi Badjie, to steal from the warehouse quantities of fishing nets and other items.
The third accomplice, one Mamodou Sanyang has been assisting in the sale of the stolen items. Momodou Sanyang was interrogated and caught by a customer selling the CCT-Gambia products in Banjul and the forth accomplice was said to be residing in Senegal.
This came to light during investigations, and that efforts to get him proved futile. Mamady Badjie, being the mastermind of this act of stealing, refused to tell the CCT-Gambia Enterprise, how to get his fourth accomplice in Senegal, who according to him, used to come to The Gambia, to carry the nets to Senegal for sale. However, the forth accomplice is still at large and the matter is now with the police.
During this period, the CCT-Gambia boss and his employees conducted a thorough search at the company’s warehouse and realised that the attached sheet indicated that the stolen items amounted to about D752,050. When contacted, the Station Officer at Kairaba Police Station, SO Nyan, confirmed that the accused persons were arrested and detained at the Kairaba Police Station.
He told the Daily Observer that the accused persons are now granted bail, while the police investigations are in progress. According to SO Nyan, the accused persons are expected to appear in court after the investigations are completed.
