A new church was open last Sunday in kendingsaibel village, Kombo South, Western Region in extension of the St. Francis Parish in Kunkujang-Mariam.
In his sermon at the opening, the Bishop of Banjul, Reverend Robert Patrick Ellison, reminded the congregation on the birth of Jesus Christ. He said, “today we gather here to celebrate the feast of Epiphany, which is celebrated 10 days after the birth of Christ. In the feast of Epiphany, we remember the three wise men who came from the east to adore the child Jesus”.
He added “this congregation and the people of The Gambia and the world over will continue to bow down to adore the child Jesus like the three wise men in the Bible. Our purpose of gathering here today is to open our new church which is dedicated to St. Paul in the Bible”.
Speaking after the mass service, Mr. Peter JP Mendy, highlighted the constrains of the church saying “the church needs more seats, a dressing room and altar, choir materials and training for the choir”. He appealed to philanthropists, donors and individuals to help in the provision of these materials.
