The president of the Gambia Sports Journalists Association, Namory Trawally, in no small measure challenged young sports journalists to always build and have confidence in their functions as professionals and always dig into research in order to enhance their abilities and broaden their mental horizons for the sole realisation of their dreams and aspirations.

Mr. Trawally made these remarks on Tuesday at a four-day training seminar for sports journalists which ended recently at Gambia Press Union head office at Fajara.

In his deliberations at the four-day educative and effective training, Mr. Trawally disclosed that sports journalists should transcend sensations from their reports in order to inform their audience factual, balanced and quality news.

He said that journalists should stick to their professions and desist from inflammatory reporting. He called on the participants to adhere to the ethics of their profession in order to be respectable elements of the society. He further appealed to the participants to continue reading hard and do more research as a means to equip themselves well for the execution of their duties. Mr. Trawally reiterated the need for reporters to maintain neutrality in reporting sports or analysing matches.

According to Mr. Trawally, his association makes all efforts to promote, improve and develop sports journalists in The Gambia particularly the young ones, and he commended Media Agenda for organising the training course. He revealed further that this would contribute immensely towards the improvement of young sports reporters in the country.

He advised them to be regular in duties and always go to the field on time.
