Ports send warning to rivals

Tuesday, April 7, 2009
The Gambia Ports Authority of Coach Peter Bonu Johnson has send a warning to their direct rivals for two of the promotion places to the First Division after a slow start to the FA Second Division League.

Ports were held to disappointing draws in their opening four fixtures but an easy 2-0 win over Jambanjelly United last week followed by a convincing 4-2 win over inconsistent Lamin United on Sunday saw them climbed above the ladder. In a game played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini-Stadium, the Ferry Boys took a 2-1 first half lead but United force their way back into the game even though Ports dominated and dictated the pace of the entire game.

And their dominance paid off mid-way through the second half as they fired in two goals to complete a perfect display with a perfect result. After six weeks into the Gambia Football Association 2009 Second Division League, the Gambia Ports Authority is one the three remaining unbeaten teams in the Division with ten points. And after the game in a telephone interview with Gambia Sports Online, head Coach Peter Bonu Johnson said his boys underrated their opponents but were able to learn from their mistakes.

“The boys underrated Lamin that allowed them into the game but thank god we were able to win the match” Bonu told gambiasports.gm.
