In a categorical rebuttal of the allegations contained in a letter published in the Daily Observer column captioned "Police come to our aid", the Gambia Police Force has said that there are have not been frequent robbery incidents in Tallinding as stated in the letter.
This was stated in a letter from the Office of the Inspector General of Police sent in to the Daily Observer. The letter, which we reproduce below, was signed by the Public Relations office of the GPF, ASP Sulayman Secka.
The police has visited the area mentioned "Bantaba Street" and has spoken to the Alkalo of Tallinding, Mr Ebou Badjie, who said it is a surprise to see this on the paper when he the Alkalo is not aware of such because it has never been brought to his notice and this matter has never been reported at Tallinding police or to any police station for that matter. People living along Bantaba Street were also questioned but most of them are not aware of such attacks as explained by the writer.
The police in Kanifing Division have three patrol teams that patrol the whole KMC every night, 1) PIU, 2) The Kanifing PoliceTtask Force Patrol Team and the Tallinding police under their S/O too do have frequent night patrols within Tallinding, just to make sure people sleep peacefully whilst their properties are protected.
My advice to this reporter and anybody for that matter is to report crimes to the nearest police station and to try to liaise with their community police committee which has been established in every ward in the Kanifing Municipality and are working directly with the police to curb crimes within the KMC.
Thus, I would like to use this opportunity to assure the General Public that the Gambia police will always work in their interest especially in areas of protection of lives and properties.
