Hundreds of people in Farafenni town, North Bank Region, last Saturday responded positively to Operation Clean the Nation.
Residents cleaned up the environs of Farafenni and beyond. Among the participants were the Jigimarr Youth Association. Speaking to our NBR correspondent, Samba Ceesay, the public relations officer of the association, thanked members for the positive turnout.
According to him, it is now an obligation in the association that all members participate in the monthly cleansing exercise. “Any member of the association who fails to participate in the exercise will pay D25. The exercise is for our own interest. If we maintain a healthy environment, then the rate of malaria in the area will drastically reduce,” he said.
He then called on the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare to get rid of all unhygienic and expired foodstuffs in the region and appealed to the government, NGOs and all stakeholders, to assist them with materials that will make their work easier.
