A new assembly hall for Brikama Upper Basic School has finally been completed and handed over to the school authorities.
Sponsored by the Lord Williams’s School (UK), the assembly hall represents the culmination of fundraising by Lord Williams’s, amounting to over D1.2 million. Construction of the hall began in May 2007 and ended in December 2007. In 2008, a new toilet block was built and the windows, doors and floor of the assembly hall were completed.
A ten-staff delegation from Lord Williams’s School attended the handing over ceremony. The group comprised David Wybron (headteacher), Jon Ryder (deputy headteacher), Mike Shorthouse (link chairman) and seven other colleagues. Speaking at the ceremony, Adama Faal, the principal of the Brikama school, saluted Lord Williams’s school for the gesture and assured them that the friendship will be strengthened. Lamin Sanneh, the governor of Western Region, also thanked the philanthropists for their assistance.
Speakers from the Lord Williams’s delegation included David Wybron, Carol Kendall and Mike Shorthouse. They expressed gratitude to the people of Brikama and assured them that the already existing ties between the two schools will be further strengthened. At the end of the ceremony, Mike Shorthouse, chairperson of the partnership committee at Lord Williams’s School, was presented with a certificate of appreciation for his efforts in making the dream a reality.
