Members of the Multi-disciplinary Facilitation Team (MDFT) and ward councilors under the Janjangbureh Local Government Area, recently held a two-day sensitisation on the Community Driven Development Project (CDDP) operational modalities.
In his opening remarks, Lamin Darboe, the deputy governor of the Central River Region, pointed out that the CDDP was designed by the government of The Gambia and its partners, to empower the community towards poverty reduction. He added that the role of the Members of the Multi-disciplinary Facilitation Team in the implementation of the CDDP cannot be over emphasized, as they have cardinal responsibilities in coordinating the project implementation. He called on the participants to take up the workshop seriously.
Lamin Badjie, the community development officer in Central River Region South said the project development objective is for rural communities in partnership with local goverment areas to plan, implement and maintain their priority in social and ecomomic investments. He revealed that the CDDP is a World Bank, Japanese and Gambia government sponsored project with a life span of five years.
He revealed that 60% of the funds are directed to community development and will extended to forty-three villages in the twelve wards of Janjangbureh local government area. He reiterated that community participation is an essential factor of success as it is widely proven that empowerment and project ownership and sustainability are solely achieved through active community participation.
