The Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, has been receiving goodwill messages from well wishers around the world. The latest messages to have arrived at the State House come from Mohammed VI, King of Morocco, and a number of The Gambia’s representatives around the world.

We reproduce below the text of these messages.

Mohammed VI, King of Morocco

Your Excellency, my dear brother,
Assalamu alaikum warahmatullah wabarakatuh
As the Republic of The Gambia celebrates its glorious Independence Day, it gives me great pleasure to send Your Excellency my most sincere congratulations, along with my best wishes to you for good health and happiness, and to the Gambian people for continued progress and prosperity under your wise leadership.

I should like to take this opportunity to say how much I value the close, sincere brotherly ties, mutual esteem and cordial understanding between us personally, and the fruitful co-operation and effective solidarity enjoyed by our countries.

I also wish to reiterate my strong desire to continue working with you, to further strengthen and expand our relations in order to serve our peoples’ interests and contribute to development, security and stability in Africa.

Sanjay K Dewan, Gambia’s Honorary Consul General India
Respect Excellency
It gives me immense pleasure on the auspicious and graceful occasion of the 44th anniversary celebrations of the attainment of The Gambia’s independence on February 18, 2009, to extend my warmest greetings to Your Excellency, Madam First Lady, the family and the people of the Republic of The Gambia.

We pray to Allah the Almighty to continue to guide Your Excellency onto the path of progress and prosperity for the Gambian people and to grant you, as well as your entire family, good health and happiness.

Excellency, kindly accept assurances of my highest consideration.

Mamour A Jagne, Ambassador, Brussels
Your Excellency
On the joyous occasion of our country’s Forty-fourth National Day of Independence, the entire staff of The Gambia’s Embassy in Brussels joins me in offering to Your Excellency our sincere congratulations.  Under your leadership, the strides made by The Gambia in infrastructural development, education, health and empowerment of women and youth are there for all to see.

May Allah the Almighty continue to guide you, and provide you with strength and wisdom as you lead our noble nation towards greater prosperity and self-actualisation.  May we also take this opportunity to reiterate our resolve to work with you towards the realization of the laudable vision you have set for The Gambia.

Please accept, Your Excellency, the assurances of our highest consideration and esteem.

Momodou Badjie,Gambia’s Ambassador, Mauritania
Your Excellency,
On behalf of my staff and families, and the entire Gambian community in Mauritania, I wish to extend my heartiest congratulations to Your Excellency and family, the government and people of The Gambia on the occasion of our 44th Independence celebrations.

Today, we in Mauritania join people the world over in rejoicing with you in The Gambia’s continuous strive in self-determination, more especially the advent of the Second Republic, of which you are the leading architect.

In effect, your untiring exertions and imaginative initiatives have become the measure of the success of our independence, sovereignty, unity, peace and stability and territorial integrity.  Fifteen years in the life of a nation may not represent more than a short step in the long march of history.  Yet for The Gambia, like other African nations, not being spared the turbulence and tribulations of nation-building, your wise stewardship will continue to leave indelible impressions on our national psyche.

On this occasion, we thank and congratulate you for the special and adequate attention to the establishment of our infrastructural facilities so badly needed and your positive contribution to solutions of our primary problems of food, shelter, education and health as a developing nation.  The Gambia is in motion, moving forward on the path of progress.

May Allah be with you in your celebrations and grant you good health, long life, prosperity and the wherewithal to usher our great country to higher heights. Please accept, your Excellency, the assurances of my highest consideration and best wishes of personal health and well-being. Our highest praises and sincere felicitations to you.
