Kerewan woman stabbed to death

The Gambia Police Force on Tuesday paraded Amadou Jarra, aged 23 and a Malian, before reporters at the police headquarters in Banjul.

He was arrested for the brutal murder of Nyimasata Ceesay on Monday, 2 March 2009, in Kerewan. Chief Inspector Jerreh Conteh, SO, Kerewan Police Station, who narrated the incidence to said Amadou Jarra brutally stabbed two women in the persons of Nyimasata Ceesay and Kinti Fatty. He was dwelling in the same compound with the women, where he was by one Burama Fatajo, who is the husband of the two women. Chief Inspector Conteh said that the victims were immediately rushed to a hospital in Kerewan where Nyimasata was pronounced dead on Tuesday morning. At the time of this incidence, the Kerewan SO added, Burama Fatajo, the husband, was not at home.

The SO also said that the accused said he and the two women always brew “attaya” together but during the tea brewing sessions, they (the victims) often provoked him. The SO added that the accused also said that on the day in question, the two had insulted him and his parents leading to his running to collect a knife which he used to stab the duo. It was revealed that the accused stabbed Kinti Fatty first before pouncing on Nyimasata Ceesay. The alleged murderer was also said to have been found in possession of the knife that he used to stab the two women.

Meanwhile Amadou Jarra has been charged for the murder of Nyimasata Ceesay. Further charges will be added based on the reports of Kinti Fatty’s health condition.
