Extends Apologies
The Gambia U-17 team will miss the services of Norwegian/ Gambian Manchester United youngster Joshua King for the World U-17 championship in Nigeria.
Joshua King who was born in Norway to a Gambian father, Mr.King was invited by the Gambia Football Association to play for The Gambia U-17 side.
Joshua Christian Kojo King who made his debut for the Premier League champions recently made his intensions known in a letter sent to the Gambia Football Association, said GFA President Seedy MB Kinteh.
According to the letter, while extending apologies regarding his decision to stay away from international duty to the FA, King stated that he is looking forward to secure a first team place in his club (Manchester United).
He added “I would not rule out the chance to play for The Gambia in the very near future.”
“I am glad that The Gambia have qualified to the World Cup in Nigeria and I would also like to say that I am so much happy to receive the invitation to feature for The Gambia by the GFA, which makes me proudGambian,” he pointed out.
Reacting to the move, the GFA Boss Seedy MB Kinteh who understood King’s situation, said “I respected his decision and he will be considered for selection either for the U-20 or the senior national team ahead of future international championship if he decides to play for the country anytime”.
