Wow! How proud I am of our president - Professor Dr Alhaji AJJ Jammeh. This is the second fantastic interview between him and Kebba Dibba of GRTS that I have watched.
I will personally like to say thanks to him for being so open and unbending in his speech. His Excellency is a great role model to me and let’s hope he is to you! Let us take a leaf out of his book and show him even more support and help make his job even easier. We should help the president to make the country better. I myself feel loyal to The Gambia and the president - even though I was not born here. I strongly believe my forefathers were here. I am a returnee from the UK who has made the decision to return to my ancestral home. I do not consider myself a foreigner but a Gambian.
During the broadcast, our president spoke about his disappointment with the youths of today with regards to their attitudes of focusing mainly on achieving “so called dreams” in Europe when they should be putting more emphasis and energies in improving themselves in their own country.
The lying has to stop, the cheating on our own brothers and sisters and stealing. The subject of firing members of staff was brought up during the interview. This has mainly been a source of criticism and in some case bitterness. However, let us step into the shoes of the manager of a company. If your members of staff are not fulfiling their roles, their work is not satisfactory, you are losing out as a company and getting negative feedback, what would you do? You would be looking to replace them.
Here we are not talking about just a company but about a whole country. His Excellency only wants the very best for The Gambia. Our president is truly a people person. He truly wants to see the betterment of The Gambia and its people. As a people, we all have weaknesses but we must improve ourselves individually!!!
Wealth without knowledge will take you to HELL - moving to the west and chasing the dream, hoping that you will become a millionaire which is not achievable. All that will happen is that you will end up ‘stuck in the Matrix’.
Economic exploitation was also discussed - which is really a great loss to us here. The president spoke about us only getting a mere 3% from the export of our country’s minerals which is a total disgrace. We have been exploited way too long, we cannot allow it to continue.
The president’s words echoed in my heart: “Gambia will never be enslaved again”, “we are ready to pay the price”. What a remarkable man. Totally unafraid, he is not a sell-out president. The president represents the scriptural David in the Bible fighting against the large Goliath. We must stand up and back this man fully. Let us take a stance and be counted!
How many of our leaders in Africa have this courage and how many are really God fearing?
What I am really saying is that Africa MUST WAKE UP. How many times must we hear the same thing over and over again. We are the sleeping lions. We must learn more about our roots - true roots - and re-educate ourselves.
The subject of leadership was touched on. Let us examine the true meaning of leadership. When we look into the word more deeply, we can break it up into three categories:- LEAD - which is something that has weight. This means that you have to be willing to carry the weight of the people and their problems, which many leaders are not willing to do.
You also have LEADER:- A Word derived from director/chief/conductor. You can always tell a good conductor by their music. If not directed properly, it becomes out of tune and without rhythm. Also, a vessel without a conductor will easily lose its way and the people will eventually perish. Our president has definitely not lost his way. If so, he would not have been going so strong for the last fourteen years with such a steady rhythm, getting stronger and stronger.
Finally the last component of the word leadership is the word ship. A ship requires a ship master, who is the main navigator. This is one who will lead us in the right direction with the help of God.
Don’t sell-out Africa for Europe. Let us all pray sincerely to keep peace and justice in The Gambia and pray for His Excellency to continue his commitment and hard work. Finally to end with something from the Holy Qu’ran”
In the name of Allah the beneficent the merciful “And Allah delivers those who keep their duty with their achievements. Evil touches them not, nor do they grieve. Allah is the Creator of all things and he has charge over everything. His are the treasures of the heavens and the earth... and those who disbelieve in the messages of Allah, such are the losers”. Holy Quran 39:61.
