Habitual thief sentenced

Senior Magistrate Sainabou Wadda- Ceesay of the Kanifing Magistrates Court yesterday convicted one Demba Jobe, a habitual offender and sentenced him to a one-year mandatory jail term with hard labour.

Demba Jobe pleaded guilty to two charges of house breaking and stealing.
Narrating the facts of the matter, the police prosecutor, Inspector Mariama Fatty told the court that Demba Jobe is a habitual offender with a previous conviction.

She went on to inform the court that the incident happened in Serrekunda Sandika in the shop of one Ajai Awa Cham.  According to her, the watchman of the said shop saw the accused taking goods from the shop.

She further stated that the watchman called on the neighbours to come to his aid. The convict was apprehended with the goods. According to her, he was then taken to the Serrekunda Police Station were he was cautioned and charged.

The recovered goods were tendered and marked as exhibits. The magistrate then sentenced the convict accordingly and ordered that the recovered items be returned to the complainant, Ajai Awa Cham.
