Gambia U-20 Warm Up Wafu Tournament

As part of preparations for the 2008 Wafu Cup U-20 championship slated for November 28thto the 9thof December 2008 to be hosted by Nigeria, The Gambia National U-20 have started warming up.

Speaking to Pointsports, Pa Suwareh Faye, a member of the coaching staff Gambia National U-20 team, said his boys are ready for the forthcoming Wafu cup championship organised by the West African football Union for the way forward of West African football.

He revealed that they are currently training with 18 players and they are expecting five from the U-17 team. The tournament is mainly for the home based players to showcase their talent and also to improve, develop and promote local based players in West Africa.

He further revealed that The Gambia U-20 team will start their campaign with Guinea Conakry U-20 team on November 28th. On the 30thof November they will play against Senegal U-20 while on December 2nd2008 will clash with the Ghana U-20 team who eliminate the Gambia National U-20 from the 2009 CAF U20 Youth Championship Tournament to be hosted in Rwanda next year. He assured the fans his boys will certainly perform to expectations in the forthcoming Wafu Cup Championship organised by West African football union [WAFU].

He calledonGambiansto support the teambothfinanciallyandmorallyfortherealisationoftheirdreamsand aspirations.

“As you all know, football is expensive now so we need support from the general pubic and the private sector to support the team so that they can bring the trophy to The Gambia,’’ Mr Faye concluded.
