The Gambia Under 17 team are stepping up preparations for the forthcoming CAF Under 17 Championship to be hosted in Algeria in mid-March.
The Baby Scorpions will entertain fellow finalists - the Young Syli Nationales of Guinea - on Saturday, at the Independence Stadium, Bakau, in what could be described as their first-ever competitive warm-up match ahead of the Algeria youth event, which will also serve as qualifiers for the FIFA Under 17 World Cup finals to be staged in Nigeria later in the same year.
The Gambia will make their first appearance in the biennial youth event since 2005, when they lifted the title after out-classing Ghana in the final played in Banjul.
The team, which remain the country’s sole representatives in continental football, have have been tipped a training camp in Egypt early next month by the Gambia Football Association, who has since set up a special marketing committee tasked with the responsibility of raising the needed funds to fully equip the team.
