Moses Nwanze, project coordinator of the Future Ambassadors of Movie and Entertainment in Africa (FAME), has renewed his project’s commitment to taking The Gambia’s movie and entertainment status to a higher level.
Speaking to the Daily Observer at his office along Kairaba Avenue, yesterday, Nwanze said they are currently on a process that will involve a nationwide story/script writing contest with an auditioning to select the best potential actors/actresses who will feature alongside prominent TV film stars from Nigeria. He explained that as part of the nationwide story/script writing competition, the best stories will be selected and the winning story will attract D100, 000. According to him, that particular story will also be transformed into a movie that will be premiered in the final phase (a film festival).
Nwanze then expressed confidence that FAME Africa will achieve its aims here in The Gambia, even though there are lot of challenges on the way. "We are committed in that we have started it and we must end it," He promised. He further explained that FAME Africa is a concept-developing project that will propagate brand in Africa. He promised that the project will in the nearest future create employment opportunities for Gambian youths, stating that they have already employed forty young Gambians.
Speaking about the challenges faced by the project, Nwanze explained that the lack of adequate sponsorship for the project is one factor that has greatly affected their activities. He however used the platform to thank the Plymouth Banjul Challenge and LG Electronics for sponsoring their activities.
Nwanze then concluded by calling on all Gambians to take part in the story/script writing competition, observing that the project will positively impact on the country’s academic sector through a career inspiring opportunity that will engage the minds of the young people and the general public.
