A press release from the Department of State for Health and Social Welfare, issued on Friday 28th November, 2008, stressed The Gambia Government’s readiness to contain the rising threat of sale of unhygienic food in the country.
Below, we reproduce the full text of the statement:
‘‘The department of State for Health and Social Welfare hereby informs the general public and especially food vendors, that the sale of unhygienic food will not be tolerated. Therefore any vendor who fails to meet hygienic standards will be penalized according to Law.
The general public is advised to cooperate with the department by not patronizing such vendors for their own good health. Exposed foods get contaminated by dust, which contains all kinds of pathogens that harm you.
Be assured that the department is always concerned about your health and will not compromise its public health mandate.’’
