Butcher Fined For Cheating

The Brikama Magistrates’ Court, presided over by Magistrate Fredrick Forster recently convicted and sentenced one Abdoulie Lowe to a fine of D200, and a compensation of D30 to the complainant, in default to serve two weeks in prison for cheating.

According to the charged sheet, on 12th September 2009, at Old Yundum, the accused Abdoulie Lowe sold to one Kaddy Jatta 1 kilo of steak meat, at a price of D150, when the kilo of beef stake is pegged at D80.

According to the facts narrated by the Prosecuting Officer, Sub-Inspector Pateh, it happened on 12th September 2009, when the complainant Kaddy Jatta went to Old Yundum to buy meat.

According to him, the complainant gave the accused D200, adding that the accused return the change of D50 to the complainant when the change should have been D80. He said the complainant reported the matter to the Old Yundum Police Station. Consequent upon this, the accused was arrested and taken to the police station.

The convict in his plea of mitigation begged the court to temper justice with mercy.
