The Gambia Armed Forces FC might not have passed the group stage in the just concluded military football tournament held in Uganda, but the Gambian team will return home with an individual trophy under their belt.
Armed Forces’ crafted midfielder, Landing Darboe, commonly known as Delpiero, was named the best player at the end of the two-week event that brought together seven military teams from the sub-region.
The trophy was a consolation for the Gambian team that failed to qualify from the group stage after drawing all their three group matches (1-1 against Cameroon, 2-2 against South Africa and 2-2 against Algeria).
Cameroon were crowned the champions after beating Algeria 4-3 through spot kicks after a goalless draw in the regulation.
