Bakau town takes centre stage today for the second week of the Gambia Football Association Division One League action as local rivals Steve Biko and Bakau United clash at the Independence Stadium.
Steve Biko did manage to take four out of possible six points from their neighbours last season, drawing 0-0 in the first round and 1-0 second round win, and Bakau United who have had a misfiring form last season will be desperate to put one over their bitter rivals this season. The Bakau United side have been boosted with the return of star striker, Daddy Gai, who is also set to renew his on the pitch rivalry with Steve Biko opposition, athletic Assan Jatta, who has since rejoined his former club after a two-year bitter-sweet stint in Europe. Both Steve Biko and Bakau United are looking forward to their first wins, having drawn their opening matches.
Steve Biko came from behind to force a 1-1 draw against arch rivals Wallidan - the best result they could have bagged, while Bakau United held Samger to a goalless draw last weekend. In the mid-week’s other matches, Gamtel and Hawks, both winners in the opening games, will square off against each other at the Brikama mini-stadium, while Real de Banjul take on Sait Matty at Manjai Kunda.
Samger too are in action today, against Armed Forces at Serrekunda East mini-stadium. On Thursday, champions Wallidan will take on Tallinding United at the Independence Stadium, while Brikama United take on Sea View at the Serrekunda East mini-stadium.
