2009 African U-17 Fixtures: Gambia To Face Tough Opponents

The Gambia will face equal and tough contenders in the finals of the 8th African U-17 championshipbilled for March 19thto April 3rd , 2009 in Algeria.

According to the draw held yesterday in Algiers, the darling Scorpions are pitted in group A alongside Cameroon, Guinea and host Algeria and will play their first opening game with Guinea on Thursday March 19, 2009 in Zeralda.

The Darling Scorpions second encounter will be against Cameroon, on Sunday March 22, 2009.

In their final group game schedule for Wednesday 25th March, the 2005 African champions will play hosts, Algeria, who will be making their debut appearance in this competition at home soil.

Group B features, two newcomers, Malawi and Niger together with Burkina Faso and Zimbabwe.

This will be the first time the biennial championship will be held in North Africa since its inception in 1995 in Cameroon without defending champions, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria who were bundled out at the first round by Benin.
