These comments by Mr. Touray come hot on the heels of widespread rumours that the newly appointed members of the committee are driven by an opposition agenda that is set up to destabilise the ruling APRC party’s support base in Gunjur.
According to the VDC Chairman, the Village Development Committee is a village development entity that is there to serve the interest of the villagers and not political parties.
“We have nothing to do with political parties except for the government of the day without whose support no organisation in any country would be able to achieve its desired goals,” he said.
In Mr. Toutay’s view, Gunjur is a community with an estimated population of 18,000 all of whom, he said, cannot be pro- or anti-ruling party. “What we are sure of is that any task given to us will be fully implemented without any sabotage,” he assured.
Meanwhile, the newly appointed committee have drawn up a six-month action plan which, among other things, include the filling up of 18 street ponds in Gunjur so as to enable easy access to certain streets in the village.
