Three Self Contained Houses Engulfed by Inferno

Three self contained houses in Librass Village in Upper Fulluda West district in CRR were recently destroyed by fire. The compound, which housed a family of 38 out of which 29 are children, caught fire at 3pm. The blaze lasted for four hours before being brought under control by fire fighters from Bansang.

According to the compound head, Mr. Jimmeh Jawneh he lost over D100,000 in the fire. He added that foodstuffs, clothing, furniture and jewelry were also destroyed. He said that the fire originated in one house which was locked as there was nobody there at the time.

According to Tutu Jawneh, the occupant of the third house, over 18 people live with her in the same complex and the disaster has plunged them deeper into poverty.

Mrs. Jawneh further disclosed that she lost everything in the fire including foodstuffs, clothes, jewelry, cash and cooking utensils. She appealed to government, NGO’s and philanthropists to assist them.

For her part, Mrs. Satou Jawneh also said that the fire was so wild it took the fire fighters hours before they could tame it. She then thanked and commended their neighbours for their humanitarian support during the incident. She also appealed to agents to assist.
